Sustainability

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At A'ARU Collective, we recognise the urgency of the climate crisis and the complexities it presents. It is our responsibility to take ownership of our business emissions and minimise our carbon impact at every step.

While the challenges are significant, we are committed to offering travellers more responsible and thoughtful options. Our aim is to guide travellers towards smarter, more considered choices, enabling them to make informed decisions about how they engage with the world through travel.

Offering a Responsible Alternative

Travel undeniably comes with environmental impacts, particularly in terms of emissions. At A'ARU Collective, we are focused on providing alternative hotels and experiences that reduce these impacts wherever possible.

The properties we select prioritise meaningful sustainability efforts, actively working to reduce their environmental impact and carbon footprint. By offering these alternatives, we aim to encourage travellers to make responsible choices that align with their values, without compromising on the luxury and quality of the experience.

TRANSPARENCY IN SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability in travel is complex, and we believe in being transparent about that. Not all certifications or sustainability claims are equal, and at A'ARU Collective, we strive to cut through the confusion.

Our vetting process ensures that the hotels we work with demonstrate genuine efforts toward sustainability, integrating responsible practices into their operations, values, and culture. We aim to make it easier for travellers to navigate these choices, offering clarity so they can make decisions with confidence.

Responsible Business Practices

We are all in this together

As a travel company, we understand the importance of taking responsibility for our emissions. While we recognise that, from an environmental standpoint, not travelling would have the lowest impact, responsible travel offers significant benefits—fostering cultural exchange, supporting local economies, and promoting conservation efforts. At A'ARU Collective, we make considered decisions at every level, from selecting responsible, forward-thinking hotels and experiences to partnering with ethical guides and providers. We are tracking our emissions from the outset, setting clear benchmarks, and planning a carbon reduction strategy based on our first year of trading.

We are committed to making thoughtful, transparent choices and continuously refining our practices to offer travel experiences that prioritise positive impacts on both communities and the environment.

ALIGNING WITH THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

A'ARU Collective aligns its operations with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), focusing on partnerships that address global challenges such as climate action, clean energy, and the well-being of local communities.

These goals guide our decisions, ensuring that the experiences we curate contribute to long-term positive change. Our role is to present travellers with responsible options that reflect these global priorities and inspire greater awareness of the impact of their travel.

AUDITING AND BENCHMARKING OUR PROPERTIES

Sustainability goes beyond surface-level commitments, and at A'ARU Collective, we conduct thorough audits of our partner properties to ensure they are genuinely responsible.

Our vetting process is designed to eliminate greenwashing, focusing on hotels that take meaningful steps to protect the environment and engage with their local communities. These hotels are more than just ethical—they are driving transformative change. We believe travellers have the right to know exactly where they’re staying, and the impact their choices have on the world around them.

1% FOR THE PLANET

As part of the 1% for the Planet initiative, A'ARU Collective commits 1% of our annual revenue to environmental causes that work towards the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems.

This is just one way we aim to contribute directly to the health of our planet, recognising that travel and sustainability must go hand-in-hand. By supporting initiatives that focus on environmental restoration, we are actively participating in the broader efforts to address the climate crisis.

Our oceans, the lifeblood of the planet, are in peril, and the repercussions of inaction will be devastating for the environment and our industry. This is not just about altruism—it's about survival and seizing a strategic advantage. Investing in sustainable solutions for our oceans is a business imperative that aligns with environmental stewardship and economic prosperity.

Lately you may have seen the term ‘regenerative’ being used in relation travel, and you may wonder, is it just another, more elevated way of saying sustainable? Does this new term refresh the goals of sustainability, or replace them entirely? How do we navigate the ever-changing terminology around caring for our earth? We believe the most compelling answer can be found by understanding where the concept of regenerative travel came from and how it’s origin is shaping travel choices that benefit both people and planet.

Mindful Flying In any conversation about sustainable travel, there is an inevitable elephant in the room. An elephant that makes us wonder if ‘sustainable’ and ‘travel’ can truly exist side-by-side. An elephant with wings and propellors and a hefty carbon footprint: the aeroplane. We know that flying isn’t fully sustainable yet . In fact, it’s the least sustainable form of travel , and, as more and more people choose to fly , its impact on climate change is only increasing. But there are ways to make more mindful choices when travelling by plane.
