The A’ARU Standard: How We Vet Regenerative Luxury

The Manifesto: A Commitment to Reality

Travel has a footprint. We believe in intellectual honesty: flying to a destination carries an environmental cost. At A’ARU Collective, we do not sell carbon-neutral fantasies or rely on questionable offsetting schemes to claim that our travel is 'net positive'.

We operate on a more grounded principle: if you choose to travel, you deserve to stay in a place that treats its local environment and community with rigorous care.

We exist to curate hotels and experiences that manage their local impact—energy, waste, and social equity—with data-backed precision. We have done the heavy lifting of auditing these properties so you can make an informed choice.

The A’ARU Ethical Selection Framework: Rigorous Auditing for Real Impact

We apply a rigorous, transparent vetting process when selecting our partners, guided by internationally recognised benchmarks including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria.

Our commitment to regenerative hospitality is a core value, not a marketing exercise. We meticulously audit our portfolio of luxury hotels to ensure they demonstrate measurable leadership in three key pillars:

  • Environmental Stewardship: Implementing carbon-reduction strategies, waste-to-resource systems, and biodiversity protection.

  • Social Equity & Economy: Ensuring fair wages, local employment, and direct investment into community-led initiatives.

  • Cultural Preservation: Honoring indigenous heritage and protecting the tangible and intangible history of each destination.

This ensures every journey curated by A’ARU Collective contributes meaningfully to the planet and its people—not just in theory, but through verified, practice-based results.

The A’ARU Vetting Process:

Evidence Over Intention

We reject the vast majority of hotels that apply to our programme. A brochure of good intentions is insufficient. When we audit a property, we measure their operations against three hard criteria:

  • Data-Backed Sustainability: We require hard evidence, not policy documents. We verify renewable energy percentages, local supply chain audits, and proven waste diversion statistics. If a property cannot provide the metrics, they do not join our collection.

  • Direct Leadership Accountability: We bypass marketing and PR teams. We speak with owners and sustainability leads who hold direct responsibility for the property’s impact. The ethics of a hotel are determined by the values of those at the top, not by a press release.

.

  • UN SDG Alignment: We map every partner against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This framework allows us to identify where a property excels—be it clean water, social equity, or biodiversity—and verify that these efforts are woven into their daily operations.

We are all in this together

Responsible Business Practices

As a travel company, we understand the importance of taking responsibility for our emissions. While we recognise that, from an environmental standpoint, not travelling would have the lowest impact, responsible travel offers significant benefits—fostering cultural exchange, supporting local economies, and promoting conservation efforts. At A'ARU Collective, we make considered decisions at every level, from selecting responsible, forward-thinking hotels and experiences to partnering with ethical guides and providers. We are tracking our emissions from the outset, setting clear benchmarks, and planning a carbon reduction strategy based on our first year of trading.

We are committed to making thoughtful, transparent choices and continuously refining our practices to offer travel experiences that prioritise positive impacts on both communities and the environment.

1% FOR THE PLANET

As part of the 1% for the Planet initiative, A'ARU Collective commits 1% of our annual revenue to environmental causes that work towards the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems.

This is just one way we aim to contribute directly to the health of our planet, recognising that travel and sustainability must go hand-in-hand. By supporting initiatives that focus on environmental restoration, we are actively participating in the broader efforts to address the climate crisis.
